strategies, systems and people, this often exceeds the
needs and expectations of our current and new customers. By creating a service-driven organization, we can capture
more market share, offer more value than our competitors
and establish a workplace environment that is profitable,
healthy and beneficial to everyone who works with it and for it.
How It All Began
Leslie A. Matta was born in Florida and raised in California.
She had an enriching career at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel
in Beverly Hills, California in the mid-1980s, after which she
became part-owner of Golden Tours and Travel in L.A. Later on,
she trained shortly with Philippines Airlines.
Right after, Leslie finally decided to focus on her dream of
having her own nail salon. In 1991, she earned her nail and skin
care license with the California State Board of Cosmetology. She went on
to pursue a postgraduate course at the International Dermal Institute
in Torrance, California and successfully completed it in 1992. Leslie
immediately went into practice and worked in the nail industry in Los
Angeles, California until 1994. Her experiences working for different
salons enabled her to pick up valuable information and training that
she could not learn in school. Through faith and prayer, and continuing
education by way of seminars, Leslie worked on her goals diligently.
Surprisingly, she and her husband were lead to the Philippines. They
decided to settle back in Manila and set up a nail salon business when
the industry was just about to be born. It was God's perfect timing
and an opportunity to make a dream come true.
With Leslie's expertise in nail technology and her husband's business
experience, together they established in 1995 the now well-known California
Advanced Nail and Skincare (CANS), the first of its kind in the nail industry
with its first salon in Alabang. It quickly became a refuge for tired hands
and feet among the southerners. The staff are well-trained and are always
reminded that they are to give excellent treatments, comfort is of utmost
importance, and a happy attitude is the key to good customer service.
Because of CANS' unique concept and high-quality service, clients became
interested in getting a franchise. Leslie looked into the
possibility and studied the franchise business for a year before finally
going into it. With the help of Francorp, the world's largest franchise
development firm, Leslie created a spin off in 2003, and that is how California Nails
& Day Spa was born.
